Jake Galpin
Director

Jake oversees the entire operations of Strategic Builders from tender submissions and pricing to handover to the client and everything in between. Jake founded Strategic Builders in 2005 with his father and brings over 25 years’ experience in the building industry. Jake is experienced in all aspects of the building industry and has worked in various locations across Far North Qld, Cape York, Torres Strait Islands and the Gulf.

The most challenging part is the coordination of remote works and logistics, which is why our customers work with Strategic Builders because we have gotten this format of logistics down to a fine art. Having our projects completed is always so rewarding. To see the product after months of looking at plans on paper. Jake grew up on the Atherton Tablelands before settling in the Cairns area.

Danielle Ryan
Office Administration

Danielle has been working in administration roles for over 20 years both in private and government sectors. Joining Strategic Builders in 2013, Danielle assisted her husband, Jake with general administration and has moved into overseeing the running of the administration and safety processes in the business. The most challenging part of Danielle’s role is having enough time to do everything and meeting deadlines. With the overall joy of seeing the progress in construction from tendering to completion.

Danielle and Jake have three children that keep them busy with all their sporting activities and other hobbies. When they’re not busy working for the family company, they like to spend time together and with their families, fishing, camping, skiing and relaxing at home.

Bec Hera-Singh
HR Manager/ Safety Advisor

Bec brings over 30 years’ experience in administration to the team and five years’ experience in the construction industry. Often processing multitudes of paperwork and keeping up to date with all the safety regulations and government legislation.

Bec loves the company and family ethos at Strategic Builders, having a great team to work with and be within a great team environment makes our roles very rewarding at the end results of a new build.

Courtenay Lynagh
Accounts Officer/ Administration

Courtenay started work with Strategic Builders in 2017 and returned in 2025 full time after starting and growing her young family. Courtenay has worked in the building industry for over 10 years, and is constantly growing her experience, having moved into our accounts department. The challenging aspect about construction and staying up to date with all the Building Industry Fairness Laws and regulations regarding Project Bank Accounts.

Strategic Builders are a team of great people, great work and great boss, which makes Courtenay love everything about her role. Being a Cairns local already, it’s no surprise Courtenay also enjoys camping, water sports and spending time with her young family.

Chris Hattingh
Project Manager/ Estimator

Chris has a wealth of knowledge and over 50 years industry experience. Chris is a Qualified Carpenter, holds a Diploma in Business Management and Affiliate of Quantity Surveyors. During his time with Strategic Builders, Chris has assisted with the successful completion of the Saibai Island Government Housing Project, Pormpuraaw Police Station and Watchhouse, Aurukun Police Station Upgrade and Aurukun Water Treatment Plant Upgrade. Chris has assisted in streamlining Strategic Builders estimating processes, provides input to improving our company operations and continues to be a valued member of our company.

Brendan Ham
Carpenter/ Site Manager

Brendan Ham is highly experienced in the building industry and has been working with Strategic Builders for the past 10+ years. Over his time with Strategic Builders, Brendan has gained further knowledge and experience and is now working as our Site Supervisor and Site Manager. Brendan is responsible for overseeing the works onsite and ensuring that the projects are progressing as per the construction timeframes and to high quality standard. Brendan has worked in many remote area locations including Bamaga, Pormpuraaw, Aurukun, Doomadgee, Saibai Island, Moa Island and Yam Island.

James Moule
Carpenter

James Moule has been working with Strategic Builders for 15+ years. James has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry and in particular remote area construction. James has worked in many remote area locations including Bamaga, Pormpuraaw, Aurukun, Lockhart, Doomadgee, Saibai Island and Moa Island.

James’s current duties include, Assisting Site Supervisor, Onsite Safety, Supervise and instruct Strategic Builders employees including apprentices and oversee quality of work onsite.

Cameron Bowden
Carpenter

Cameron Bowden has been working with Strategic Builders for over 5 years and over 10 years of experience in the construction industry. Cameron has worked in many remote area locations including Bamaga, Pormpuraaw, Aurukun, Lockhart, Doomadgee, Saibai Island and Moa Island.

Cameron’s current duties include, Site Supervision, Onsite Safety, Supervise and instruct Strategic Builders employees including apprentices and oversee quality of work onsite.

James Moran
Diesel Mechanic
  • Certificate III In Engineering (Mechanical Trade)

  • Provide First Aid
  • Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

James is our dedicated diesel fitter and operator of machinery having worked with Strategic Builders for over 17 years. After many years of working in the trades, its eye opening for James to see the technological advances in tools and machinery. James carries out the maintenance of all machinery and tools for Strategic Builders. Everyday there is a new seemingly random challenge to negotiate through and thankfully in our industry we like overcoming challenges by either being good or being good at it.

 

 

Administration & design
Administration and careful design ensure a smooth and professional operation from commencement to completion of all project.
Arranging procurement
Evaluation of suppliers and subcontractors will be completed inhouse with priority given to the successful suppliers and subcontractors in the local area.
Efficient communication
Establishing clear channels and protocols ensures an efficient and quality build whilst maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Regular site meetings
Throughout the duration of the contract, meetings will be held with appropriate subcontractors and the client’s representatives.
Regular process reporting
A monthly report will provided the client’s representative which will include photographs showing the works currently under construction.
Safe site establishment
At commencement on site, safety fencing and boarding will be erected to ensure a safe separation between the construction site and the public.
Building envelopment
The external walls will be constructed, and the roof sheeted as soon as possible to secure the building and protect from the elements.
Commissioning & handover
Handover of the fully commissioned building will occur at completion of the project after all quality control procedures have been carried out.
